Nail Polish Shopping Spree

I may or may not have gone on a nail polish shopping spree today...

Hint, I did.

I even forgot to buy the color I was originally looking for, which meant that I had to make TWO transactions on Amazon!  So let's take a stroll down the shopping list:

OPI Tiffany Case
True story, this might be a LITTLE too much for me, but ya only live once, right?  I figured if nothing else, I can maybe stand to wear this for a couple of parties.

OPI Ski Slope Sweetie
I was originally looking for some nice, mellow colors that I could wear on a day-to-day basis now that I have a beautiful engagement ring that is drawing a LOT of attention to my hands.  This one is really cute, and I am hoping it comes off kind of sparkly and silvery.  But let's be honest, this photo is nothing to write home about!

OPI All Sparkly and Gold
This gold one is going to be perfect for the 49er game in December!  I am so excited to try it out, even though I already have a perfectly nice gold nail polish.  What can I say, I am a bit of a gold nail polish slob.  Well that, and I really got excited about this color on the OPI website even though I'm less than impressed with how it looks in the bottle online.

OPI Mermaid's Tears
I think this is where I got a little too carried away.  I couldn't leave this behind.  It is so absolutely beautiful and while I'm not entirely sure when I can wear it, but I will rock it sometime.

OPI Dulce de Leche
Here's the little troublemaker!  I went online looking for this little color right here, which I have on my nails as I type this.  It is such a nice, creamy pink-nude color.  It absolutely compliments my skin tone and accents my beautiful engagement ring.  It's right for the bride-to-be to feel pampered! :-)

Top Coat & Base Coat
And then I caved and bought the top coat and the base coat because I figured if I am going to make more of a point to be manicured at all times, I might as well do everything I can to keep the paint on as long as possible.  And I guess if I'm going to put so much effort in I should do it the right way.

Girlfriends

Sometimes all that a girl needs is a day full of pampering with her girlfriends.

Sam was on call over night yesterday- he only has 3 calls left in his 2nd year of residency.  WOOHOO!

A last minute surprise, Carrie had the day off and decided to come down and visit for the day.  Carrie and I met in college, in a Spanish class during our junior year, and it turned out we were both Communications majors and had a couple of classes together for our major.  I think we took ALMOST every Communications class after that together- excluding the ones that one or the other had already taken.  She was a bright spot for me in school and since graduation I have really appreciating having Carrie and her fantastic family so close to Sam and I.  They have been so supportive of me and very welcoming and have always made me feel like I have family here in Southern California.

We had manicures in the morning at my favorite nail salon, grabbed lunch at The Counter (which is arguably my favorite burger place EVER), and then went down to my hair appointment with Jenn.  I'm a blond again!  I think Sam's happy but I'm REALLY blond- like it's going to take some getting used to for both of us.

We came home and took Hunter for a walk so I could get in my exercise.  I swapped the heavy cardio and weight lifting that I was supposed to do yesterday with the walk Amanda had scheduled for me today.  Even on my pampered days I can't take a day off from my health and fitness regiment.

We had a bit of a GNO after the appointment.  We went to The Daily Grill for dinner and picked up a dish for Sam that we brought over to him at the hospital.  Carrie hadn't ever been to the UCI Medical Center so Sam gave her the whole tour.

Being with Carrie made me feel so much better about all the stress in my life.  It is amazing what girlfriends can do for your happiness.

Now I'm exhausted from my workout and making dinner for us tonight and tomorrow night.  Hey, planning ahead is a good thing!  My legs still feel sore, but I do think I'm better off than had I skipped my workout and napped ALL afternoon.  As it was, I napped with Hunter for an hour before hitting the gym.

Anyway, here's to a great week!

Loving my Puppy

It seems that Sam has been on call every other night since I've been back from New Orleans, which has left me with quite a bit of free time.  Once the laundry has been done, the floors vacuumed, and the surfaces tidied there isn't so much to be done.  So tonight finds Hunter and I sitting on the couch watching some of the 3rd season of Downton Abbey- OMG I can't believe Sybil died and I really hope Tom and Matthew end up running the estate together!

I have to admit, Sam was smart to have given in to getting the puppy last January.  He is quite settled into our routine now, and he's so well trained (for the most part).  Hunter took to me almost immediately, that first night he was here he was so frightened and those first 4 days he spent most of his time snuggling with me.  The relationship between he and Sam was much slower to blossom, but when I came back from Michelle's graduation last June I found they were fast friends.  :-) Every night without fail, Hunter runs to the door when Sam comes home, squealing for joy and waiting for as much love as possible.  It's even more of a show when Sam has been on call, Hunter just fawns all over him.

It's not exactly the same as how he is beside himself when I come in, but it's so sweet all the same.  He snuggles with me every night- either under the covers, between Sam and I, or on my pillow so that his head rests upon my shoulder.  He is just absolutely the most precious puppy.  As I type this, he is nestled beside me with his head in my lap.  I am absolutely Hunter's mommy, he comes to me when he wants to be coddled and loved and snuggled.  He comes to me when he get spooked and when he's cranky and tired.

And even though the weight of his care falls on my shoulders, I bear it gladly.  He is the perfect little companion.  And I am so thankful to Sam for making this all possible.

Hair Cuts & Birthdays

I am getting my first haircut since June! A friend of mine was sporting a really cute 'do over the summer and she gave me the number of her stylist and I set up an appointment for today. I will report back as to how it all goes...

I'm kind of at a loss what I want to do. Sam doesn't like the dark hair, but it's so much easier to maintain! He prefers the blonde highlights, but I don't want to deal with the up-keep associated with being an 8-week bottle blonde (someone who has to have their roots touched up every 8 weeks to the tune of $90 or so).

Last weekend over dinner Sam seemed okay with the idea of me going red, and I'm thinking that might be my "in" to going brunette.  If I splash some red color in there he might go for it more so than he did last time I went dark.

We'll have to see where this lady takes me!

I get to debut the new 'do at a friend's birthday part right after my appointment... wish me luck!
